Cancer Prevention Tips

WHAT TO DO.

  • Never use tobacco products. Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable cancer death.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink in moderation. Excessive alcohol use can increase risk of several cancers.
  • Protect your skin while in the sun by wearing SPF 15 or greater. 90% of skin cancers detected each year could be prevented with proper use of sun protection.

GET CHECKED.

  • Get regular check-ups from your health care provider. The best way to beat cancer is to detect it early when treatment is more effective.

EAT HEALTHY FOODS.

  • Shed extra pounds. Obesity is linked to cancer of the breast, ovaries, cervix and prostate.
  • Take 5 a day. Eating 5 fruits and veggies can help decrease risks of cancer.
  • Take down fat. Make healthy choices by eating foods low in fat, moderate in calories and rich in fiber.

BE ACTIVE.

  • Physical activity can help protect you from some cancers. Be active any way you can to help prevent cancer and to feel a lot better.
  • Walk, play, dance, garden, do housework, run, join the gym.
